Room Climate By deciding upon PAMINO parquet, you have chosen a life with the natural material, wood. Remember that wood remains a living material, even after its surface treatment. Wood is a hygroscopic material and therefore reacts to climatic changes in the room. PAMINO parquet is therefore produced with a wood-moisture content of from 9 ± 2 %. This wood-moisture content corresponds to a so-called wood equilibrium moisture content at an average temperature 20 °C and room humidity of around 50 - 60 %. Should the room climate change (dry air during the heating season, humid air in summer), you parquet flooring adapts accordingly until it has attained its wood equilibrium moisture content again. In dry air, your wood floor disperses moisture into the room, while it absorbs moisture in more humid air. The volume of the parquet beams changes accordingly. Your parquet floor swells or shrinks slightly. These changes take place on a daily basis, and cannot be recognised for the most part with the naked eye. During the heating season in the winter, air humidity in many rooms sinks to 35 % and below. In such cases, it is possible that visible gaps form in your parquet floor. These do not represent defects, since this is a natural reaction of the floor to the room climate. Generally these gaps disappear again in the springtime. Only if gaps of clearly more that 5/10 mm in width appear should you have your rooms and floor inspected by an expert assessor for possible defects if the overall appearance of your parquet floor displeases you. As a rule, you can achieve a healthy living and room climate at a temperature of 20 °C and around 50 % humidity by simple means. Place plants in your rooms, and air the rooms on a regular basis. A humidifier should be used during the heating season. Check the temperature and humidity with a thermometer and hygrometer. |
