Mahogany is light pink-brown to reddish-brown, and violet-brown with subsequent darkening. Along the cut segments, the wood is clearly porous with a primarily sleek wood appearance. Due to its solidity, its processing characteristics and its appearance, mahogany is the most commonly used tropical solid wood. It is softer than oak.
