Not as lively in structure and colour tone as compared to its American cousin (sugar maple). The wood has an almost even, white appearance with mild shadowing. The influence of light leads later on to a yellowish-white colour tone. Not quite as hard as the classic "Hard Maple", but almost as hard as oak. Can often be found in "historical" parquet floorings as intarsia wood.
